This St. Patrick’s Day sensory bin is fun for toddlers, preschoolers, and big kids alike.  Kids love exploring this versatile bin for hours of play!

We love sensory bins around here.  Almost as much as we love fun, simple, themed activities.  That’s why this St. Patrick’s Day sensory bin has been getting lots of playtime with our boys recently.

It’s a simple spin on our regular rainbow rice with fun themed toys to harness the luck of the Irish and it is a big hit.

If you’re looking for an easy activity that you can play over and over again, look no further.

Make Your Own St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bin

For this bin, I was determined to keep it simple.  I had lots of ideas of treasures, toys, and other fun trinkets to add, but ultimately, I only added gold coins and felt shamrock table scatters that I picked up from Michael’s craft store.

I decided that if the boys started playing and it felt like it needed more, I would add it then.  Thankfully, so far, they have been making up games with the shamrocks and gold coins so we haven’t had a need.

To make your own bin, I’ve made a list of fun ideas that you might use, with the caveat that depending on the ages of your kids, sometimes less might really be more.

Here’s what you need:

Fun Sensory Play Ideas with Your Sensory Bin

So far, my boys have been having fun scooping the green rice into different bowls and containers, hiding the shamrocks and gold coins and then using their hands or scoops to search for them.

We have counted the coins, sorted the shamrocks by color, stacked the coins, and just played with the rice.

Depending on what you use in your bin, the play possibilities really are endless!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
