This handprint apple craft is perfect for early fall, back to school, or simply learning the alphabet.  “A is for Apple”, anyone?  It is a fun activity to do with your toddlers and preschoolers, and even early elementary students.  And is there anything sweeter to look back on than handprint crafts?  We think not.

This handprint apple craft is the perfect apple craft for preschoolers and toddlers. Fun for fall apple unit or a great back to school craft for kids. Happy Fall, y’all!

Happy officially fall!  Around here, that means apple season.  Well, technically, the end of apple season I suppose.

I planned to take the boys apple picking for the first time this week on the first day of Fall to celebrate the start of a new season.  Apple season typically runs through September here in North Carolina and in October, we move to pumpkins.

We ALWAYS go to the pumpkin patch in October, and this year, I thought it would be fun to take the boys to pick apples.

I planned a whole apple week for our homeschool preschool and this was going to be the highlight.  But when we looked again online, the closest orchard to us (about 1.5 hours away) had finished with apples for the year.

What a bummer.

But that won’t stop us from learning about apples these next couple of weeks.

To start off, I had each of the older boys make a fun handprint apple craft to hang up this season.

It was super easy, the boys were so proud of their work, and I LOVE having their sweet little handprints captured in this moment.

How to Make a Handprint Apple Craft for Kids

Y’all know I love to share when we have simple activity wins over here.  And this is one I’m sure you will love.  You probably already have everything you need to make your own handprint apple crafts in your cabinet.

Just in case, here’s everything you need:

Instructions

I’m not even sure if instructions are necessary, this craft is so easy.  But, here is exactly how to make handprint apples.

  • Using a foam brush, paint your child’s hand red.  Make sure you cover his or her hand completely.

The first and last process photo of this project, because it is hard to take a break for photos when kids’ hands are covered in paint.
  • Let kids carefully “stamp” their handprint onto the clean, blank paper.  Depending on how old your kids are, it might be helpful to guide their little hands to make sure they just make a stamp and not rub their hands around on the paper.
  • Next, use a wet rag to wipe all the red paint off, or have them rinse their hands in the sink.
  • Using a separate foam brush, paint your child’s thumb or pointer finger green.
  • Have them stamp a “leaf” at the top of their handprint (the top of their palm print – the fingers should be pointed down on the paper.)
  • Finally, draw or paint in the stem.
    • You can totally use a brown marker or pen for this, but I opted to use a light brown paint that I had and a small tipped paintbrush.  Either one will do.
  • Wash hands and let your apples dry.

Handprint apples are the perfect fall or back to school craft for your kids this year!

And that’s it.  You’ve done it.  Like I said, the boys were so proud of their handprints and could not wait to show them off later in the day.

Of course, we made these handprint apples to celebrate the start of Fall, but they would also make a really great back to school craft!
