Are you looking for a fun way to introduce great children’s books to your kids? Maybe a great non-toy gift idea for kids? See our review of Bookroo – a children’s book subscription box that your kids will absolutely love!
We are continuing to adjust to new Fall rhythms around here. Our oldest is getting ready to head back to his co-op preschool class soon, some of our other groups are getting ready to start back virtually, and I am already itching to dive into all things Fall.
Of course, Fall doesn’t come to NC until October, so we will continue to hold out until then.
BUT, no matter how our seasons or routines change, one thing that remains constant around here is our love for reading.
Regardless of what is on our schedule any given day, we always make sure to spend time reading aloud together. It is so good for all of us.
And I never have to ask the boys twice if they want to read together; the answer is always yes.
We recently had the opportunity to try out Bookroo – a children’s book subscription box and today, I want to share all the details and our review with you.
Keep reading to grab a coupon code to save 20% off your own Bookroo subscription box during the month of September!
We received this box complimentary from Bookroo, but all experiences and opinions are our own.
What is Bookroo?
To put it simply, Bookroo is a monthly children’s book subscription box for children ages birth to about 10 years old depending on reading level.
They have three different book clubs to choose from, so you can get books that best fit your kids:
- Board books (ages 0-3), 3 books per box
- Picture books (ages 3-6), 2 hardcover books per box
- Chapter books (ages 7-10), 2 books per box
Take a look at some of the previous boxes to get an idea of what is in a Bookroo box.
The goal of Bookroo is to encourage children to enjoy reading and to look forward to the excitement of opening their own gift in the mail each month.
You can learn more by checking out their FAQ page here.
Our Bookroo Experience
This was our first month trying Bookroo, and we LOVED it. For starters, when you open your Bookroo box, you’ll find that each book is individually wrapped.
It’s like opening a gift! We opted for the picture book box since both of the oldest boys enjoy picture books regularly. They each got to choose one book to open, which was really fun for them.
In addition to the books, each Bookroo box includes a little note card with information about the books inside – a little summary, some extension activities or discussion points for parents, a bit about the author, etc.
The Books
Because we selected the picture book box, we received two books – Good Night, Truck by Sally Odgers and Bertie Wings It by Leslie Gorin.
Both of these books were new to us and fun to read.
The first book, Good Night, Truck is a sweet rhyming story of a truck, rocket, boat, and digger that are getting ready for rest after a long day of hard work.
Bertie Wings It tells the story of a little bird who is ready to fly, but keeps getting distracted by other bird friends sharing their advice, tips, and tricks that Bertie MUST do in order to fly. The kicker? None of the “experts” – a penguin, emu, and a kiwi – actually fly.
Bertie has to learn to trust his own instincts and abilities if he is going to learn to take off.
After having these books for just a few days, I’m glad to report that they have been well read already.
Our Bookroo Review
What a fun box! There are so many great subscription boxes on the market for kids for all sorts of things – crafts, science, nature, you name it.
But, we love the simplicity of the Bookroo box. It’s no frills (unless you count the fun wrapping paper) – just great books.
And it is a GREAT way to add more books to your home and to get your kids excited about reading.
If your kids are anything like mine, they LOVE to get their own mail and getting to open up a gift is just icing on the cake.
Another great thing about Bookroo is that if you have children in multiple age ranges, you can simply alternate which books you get each month with your subscription. So say, one month you get board books, you can choose to alternate picture books the next month.
This is a huge help to families with kids at different reading levels.
But Can’t I Just Buy My Own Books?
Well, yes. You could.
But if you are anything like me, I do not always know what to look for when I’m looking for new books to buy for the boys. Of course when we go to the library, they get to choose their own books, so I can get some ideas from there.
When it comes down to buying books for our home, I mostly know books that I loved growing up, favorites from the library, and any popular books I’ve seen with friends.
I love that Bookroo does lots and lots of research to curate GREAT books for each of their boxes.
To put it simply, they take the guess work out – and that is valuable to me.
