Hey there it’s me.  I’m still here even though it feels like I’ve been a little MIA lately.  I’d like to mix things up a little bit today and just share a little about what’s on my mind these days.  So, if you’ll bear with me, today’s post is just a round up of things happening in our house currently.

I’m also thinking of turning this into a monthly series.  Let me know if you enjoy reading posts like this and I can try to incorporate more in the future.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I’m writing this on a Tuesday afternoon while Little naps.  I schedule posts to go out at the crack of dawn and no way am I up that early.  So, you’re reading this on Wednesday, I’m writing it on Tuesday, no big deal.

Currently, I am…

Feeling

A little tired.  We spent all morning at a local museum with friends and while it was lots of fun, I am totally wiped out and really thankful that Little is napping away down the hall.

Thinking About

What I should do about my camera.  You may recall from this post that my camera took a dive into a water bucket recently and I’ve been without it ever since.  I thought it would be fine, but I’m feeling a little lost in blog land without it.  I know I can use stock photos and I do often around here, but there are lots of posts that I want to write that require photos.  I’ve been kind of practicing with my phone, but it doesn’t feel the same.  What cameras do you all use?  Am I the only one who way prefers a camera to the phone camera?  Ok, maybe it’s just me.  But, I am also trying to decide between taking the plunge and getting a DSLR or sticking with a good, user friendly point and shoot camera.  To be honest, I want both.

Hanging Out

With so many friends this week.  We have play dates every single day except Friday, which I have intentionally written on my calendar as a “rest day” in our house.  I’m not the greatest at resting, and I’m taking the advice of a friend to schedule it on the calendar.  It seems ridiculous to schedule “rest”, but then again it feels totally necessary.  (And if you’re a friend that we’re hanging out with this week, we are HAPPY to play with you!)  We usually do something each morning anyway, we’re just doing all the things with friends this week.  It’s been fun!

Looking Forward To

Little’s birthday and my brother’s wedding.  I just realized this week that we are less than two months away from both big events!  They have really snuck up on me.  I cannot wait to celebrate both.  I can’t believe that Little is growing so fast and that my baby brother is getting married.  It will be such a fun time with family and friends and I can’t wait.  We might even take Little to the zoo (another thing my pre-children self promised I would never do – take small kids to the zoo…)

In all seriousness though, I do need to start planning for his birthday.  I’m working on a wish list now for family and I think I’m going to make a birthday/Christmas list combined since Christmas will be here before we know it, too and I really think he’ll still be into similar things for both.  Is that weird?  Maybe.  But it’s two bird with one stone and this mama is all about efficiency where I can find it.

Working On

So many things.  I am trying to update some of the old images on the blog (crazy since the blog is still relatively so new, but I’ve learned so much and I have a much clearer idea of how I want images to look).  We’re also continuing to declutter our home.  It’s an ongoing process around here.  Finally, I’ve been working really hard to get into a good and balanced routine around here that incorporates daily quiet times, blogging, house work, toddler activities and naps, and rest for mama.  I’m open to your tips.  Seriously.

And I think that really covers much of what’s happening over here these days.  I would love to know what’s going on in your corner of the world.  Share in the comments below, or get in touch with me on any of my social media outlets, linked above.

Happy Wednesday, friends.  Until next time!

  1. Thank you for sharing at Mama Blog Monday! It is so nice to read a laid back post like this! I always love reading about people’s everyday lives!

Thanks so much! I enjoy these kinds of posts, too. It’s why I started following many of the blogs I’ve followed for so long – because I like to read about the everyday!

  2. I love the idea of scheduling rest days. I might have to start implementing that. I love the post, it’s a great idea to keep it going!

They really are so important for everyone, I think!

  3. Isn’t it crazy how there never seems to be enough time for anything?! I find myself so exhausted when the boys’ nap time rolls around, and I never plan for birthdays properly…plus, decluttering always takes a backseat. Good for you, always staying so positive and busy!

    1. Mary Leigh says:

YES! I am constantly wondering where the time is going. We try to stay positive over here! 🙂

  4. I would totally feel lost without my camera! I’m so sorry your pervious took a dive. A few years back we invested in a dslr and have never regretted it. However, there are certainly other options out there that will take good photos and aren’t as expensive & high maintenance. I can really relate to your packed schedule right now as my husband and I are in the middle of a move and a career change – whew! BUT, among all the chaos it feels good dedicate time to something you enjoy (like blogging!). 🙂

Keep it up & hang in there! You have a great blog!

    Cheers,
    Mallory

Yes – so lost! We are going to a camera store this weekend to see what we can do. I love the convenience of a point and shoot, but I am also really thinking about taking the dive and getting a DSLR. So many decisions.

I am working on staying in the swing with the blog. It sounds like you have got quite a packed schedule these days as well! Best wishes for all the transition!<3

  5. We do a google document that is shared by everyone in Aaron’s family. Each person has a section and can update what they want with specific links or ideas. Once something is bought, the person removes it from their list after the bday or Christmas (not when you buy it lol). We’ve used it for a few years and it’s worked really well for us!

    1. Mary Leigh says:

That is a really great idea! I also try to keep a google doc for our family so that I don’t have to recreate the wheel every year! It is really helpful!

  6. So sorry about your camera! I’d be lost without mine as well. I have a Nikon d3300 and a Cannon 5d Mark III. For budget’s sake the Nikon is a great camera. If you are looking to splurge the cannon is amazing!

Thanks for these tips! We are going to a camera store this weekend and hope to get a better idea of what we can get right now!

  7. I love this round-up! I just started working on ways to declutter my home and I know that is going to be a very long process. I am so excited to have a clean and calm space

Thanks, Azanique! I appreciate it. Decluttering is definitely a process – one that I feel like we are constantly on!

  8. Hi, new reader here! I can totally relate to not being good at resting. I’ve never thought about scheduling rest days but that’s a fabulous idea. Maybe if it’s on my calendar I’ll feel less guilty about doing it! Also, I can’t wait for my son to get old enough to take to the zoo. Thanks for sharing! I look forward to following you 🙂

Thanks so much, Nikki! I’m not the best at it, but it is really helpful sometimes to just decide, “ok, we are staying at home today. We are going to spend some time on the couch and some time getting things done, but our main goal today is rest” It’s a work in progress.

  9. I like this;) Monthly sounds like a good plan. You are highlighting all of the key areas and keep up the good work along with scheduling your rest time.

      Thanks so much, Lucy!
