This Easter Cross Resist Art craft is a fun and easy Easter craft for kids of all ages. Because it’s so easy to set-up and requires so few supplies, it makes a great craft to do at home with your kids, and is also perfect for an Easter craft for Sunday School classes.
Easter Cross Tape Resist Art
It seems like the weather is finally getting the memo about it being close to Spring around here and we are busy getting ready for the upcoming Spring holidays.
Last month, we did a Valentine’s Resist Art craft with foam shapes and Little loved it so much, I knew that I wanted to replicate it for Easter.
And this tape resist Easter cross was perfect for it! Not only was it a great way to get us thinking about Easter, which is coming up, but it was also VERY EASY to set up, which is always a big plus for me!

Supplies
- Paper or Canvas
- We used white card stock paper for this project, but I think that a blank canvas (these are great to keep on hand in your craft cabinet) would also work really well.
- Painter’s Tape
- Acrylic Paint
- You can also use water colors or tempura kids’ paint. Or even finger paint, depending on the ages of your children.
- Foam brushes
- Painting Smock, optional – but we don’t paint without it.
- Paper plate, old egg carton, or card board to hold paint.
Directions
- Use painter’s tape to tape the cross shape in the center of your paper.
- Make sure it’s taped down well around the edges to prevent paint from getting under the tape.
- Allow your child to paint all over the paper – however they wish.
- The only “rule” is that they will want to be sure to paint the area immediately around the cross, but other than that, they can mix colors, paint shapes, lines, whatever. Let them be creative.
- Once they’re satisfied with their painting, you’ll want to let it dry almost completely.
- Remove the painter’s tape SLOWLY & CAREFULLY.
- This is important, especially if you used paper. You want to make sure the tape does not pull the paper (you can start pulling it at a different angle if it does), and that you don’t get wet paint in the shape of the cross. Just be careful, and it should be fine.
We had so much fun with this resist art for Easter. We used it to talk about colors – identifying them, guessing and then observing what would happen if we mixed different colors, and just playing in paint.
It was also a really great introduction to the Easter season for Little. We were about to talk about the cross and why we celebrate Easter. It’s a conversation we have often around here, but it’s especially relevant as we prepare our hearts and home for Easter!
I love this craft idea! It’s so simple!
We had a lot of fun with it! It’s a great, easy Easter craft!
I love resist art, it’s such a fun and simple project to do with kids!
Yes! And SO versatile, too!
Love how simple this craft is and using the egg carton for paint is an awesome idea!
We try to keep it as simple as we can over here!
LOVE the idea to use an old egg carton for paint! Anything to help manage the mess!
And then just toss it in the trash! I always cut them ahead of time so they stacked in the cabinet/don’t take up much space/are ready to go!
This is such a great idea! I’m saving this for my little one for when he is old enough
We love it! It’s so versatile, too!
This looks like such a fun and easy way to share about Easter with your kids. Want to give this a try!
You totally should! E would love it! And H can probably do her own version, too – especially if you use big foam brushes!
