Can I let y’all in on a little secret? I love Valentine’s Day and it’s been a favorite of mine for a while. It’s such a fun holiday to celebrate since there really are no rules. You can be as elaborate or as simple as you’d like (I opt for simple), there are lots of fun treats, and it’s a day set aside specifically to celebrate love. Who doesn’t love love? Even before I was dating Hubs, I would go out with friends on Valentine’s Day to celebrate our friendship. We’d get dressed up, eat somewhere fun, have treats. It’s just always been a fun day for me.
That said, I think it’s even more fun now that we have kids because we get to do all the crafts!
Today, I’m sharing a really simple DIY Valentine’s Day garland that I made to hang on our fire place this year.
I love how simple and fun this garland looks on our mantel. This is another project you can easily knock out during nap-time. I actually really enjoy doing things like this during nap, because it’s always a fun surprise for Little when he wakes up. And, since this garland uses foam hearts – it’s totally kid friendly and you can save the extra hearts for other projects.
DIY Valentine’s Day Garland
Have I convinced you yet? Great. Now, let’s get started!
Supplies
- Large Foam Hearts – I ended up using 7, but you could use more or less depending on how long your garland needs to be.
- Craft Ribbon, measured to the desired length – depends where you’ll be hanging it. I recommend starting with a whole spool of ribbon and testing it for length before cutting. You can cut a little extra to be sure.
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
Directions
- Measure ribbon to desired length
- Cut with a little extra just in case
- Lay ribbon on a flat surface and space foam hearts out along it
- Using hot glue, attach each heart in place. See photo below. I ended up doing two dots of glue on the back of each heart.
- Allow glue to dry thoroughly.
And that’s it. Totally easy. Almost no clean up required and a perfectly kid friendly decoration. (Unlike some of those Christmas ornaments we just put away over here!)

This is such an adorable and simple decoration!! SO cute!
Thank you!!
I personally don’t “like” VDAY as a “love” day. I believe we should show our love and appreciation every day. However, it is definitely more fun now that I have kids. Planning to do a few different crafts now that Sweet Girl is old enough.

It is a lot of fun to celebrate with kids! Hopefully you’ll be able to get some crafting time in!
This is so cute! Love it!!
I love how such a simple project makes your mantle pop! Thanks for sharing with Party in Your PJs!
I love that you used foam hearts instead of card stock! Great idea! Shared on Pinterest and Facebook.
Thanks! The foam holds up so much better to be able to use it again! Plus I didn’t have to cut them out!
I love Valentine’s Day too, I always have–even when I haven’t had a Valentine to celebrate with. 🙂 I really like how simple this cute craft is, my kids would love to help me make one!
Same!! I loved it even when I was single – any excuse for extra pink, hearts, sweets, & love!
Such a cute idea! And I love that it’s simple and cheap! 🙂
Thank you! Simple and cheap are our kind of crafts!!
Love this little craft. My youngest son will be turning One on Valentines Day, and I was thinking I might try doing a valentines day themed little party for him, since he won’t care this year!
Oh, how fun!! What a great Valentine’s gift! A Valentine’s themed party would be super fun. Or you could mix it up and do a “love bug” themed party!
These look great! My daughter will love to make something for Valentine’s Day and no clean up? Even better! Thanks for sharing with #bloggersbest x
Too cute! I like that it’s not too difficult to make. I don’t think I really have many decorations that could be used for Valentine’s Day…hmm…I’ll have to see!
Guess what I am doing this weekend! Super cute and I have just the spot for this! #bloggersbest
Oh fun! It is a fun and simple craft!
Andi would love this! So cute! xo
I love the simplicity of this tutorial! I’m all about basic additions for holiday decor, so this is right up my alley! Thank you!
