If you are looking for a fun Easter craft for kids this year to help celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, you’ve come to the right place! This paper plate empty tomb craft is easy to put together and great for celebrating Easter at home or in your Sunday School classes.
As we get ready for Easter around here, we are doing as we usually do – a great mix of Spring crafts, Easter eggs, and religious, Bible based Easter projects.
While it’s fun to celebrate the start of a new season and to decorate eggs, it is always way more important to me that we teach our children the real reason that we celebrate Easter – that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. AND, that he rose again on the third day.
Because of this, we can have hope and confidence that we can be saved.
Empty Tomb Easter Craft
If you’re looking for an easy resurrection craft to do with your children this year, this fun paper plate craft might be just right for you!
Supplies
- 2 paper plates
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Brad fastener
- Markers or paint sticks to decorate
Directions
- Cut a circle out of the center of one paper plate without cutting the edges. (Do not cut out the ENTIRE center of the plate.)
- Cut out a larger circle from the center of the second plate.
- See below. You’ll use the larger circle as the “stone” covering the front of the tomb.
- Using your larger circle, trace a copy onto the construction paper and cut it out.
- You can toss the second paper plate.
- Use your glue stick to glue the construction paper to the back of your first paper plate.
- Use your markers or paint sticks to decorate the paper plate tomb and your circle stone however you wish.
- Attach the larger circle to the front of your plate. This will be the stone that the guards rolled in front of the tomb.
- I had to use a toothpick to punch a hole into our plates for our brad fastener. If your scissors are sharp enough, they might suffice to get the fastener attached.
- Use a marker to write, “He is Risen!” on the construction paper inside your “tomb” as a reminder that the tomb is empty!
- Enjoy rolling the stone away for this Easter reminder.
