Is anyone else in disbelief that we are getting closer and closer to summer break? Even though my boys aren’t officially in “school”, we have several home school preschool type activities that they’re involved in and each one is starting to come to a close for the school year.
This has me thinking about simple and fun end of school year activities to celebrate the end of school and the start of summer!
End of School Year Activities for Preschool & Kindergarten
Today, I’m sharing 7 end of year activities for preschool and kindergarten that you can do to celebrate a year complete with your kids. This list is specifically for things you can do with your kids at home.
That said, these ideas can easily be used more officially in the classroom for end of school year parties and activities if you want!
Countdown the Days
Create a paper chain or mark off days on the calendar to countdown to the last day of school! You can make it a fun “event” each morning. It’s a great way to practice counting and creates a fun addition to your morning routine.
You can even use it as some incentive to get through parts of the regular morning routine. Allow your kids to mark the day off or tear the paper chain link after they’ve finished breakfast, or brushed teeth, etc.
Take a Last Day of School Photo
Everyone takes a first day of school photo. So why not take a last day of school photo, too? Put the first and last day photos side by side and see how much your child has grown!
Create a School Portfolio
Gather up all those crafts and writing assignments from the year, choose your favorites and add them to a binder to keep. Your child will love reviewing some of the work they did over the year and it will be a fun way to see how far they’ve come in just a year!
End of the School Year Interview
We do an interview with our kids on each of their birthdays, but this would also be a fun way to celebrate the end of the school year. Ask questions about your child’s favorite memories from the year, what they want to be when they grown up, favorite foods, activities, song, something they’ve learned, etc.
For more fun, ask the same questions each year to see how their answers change over time.
Go Out for a Special Treat
I don’t know about you, but my boys are ALWAYS up for a special treat. And with the warm weather of [almost] summer, a special trip to an ice cream shop or making your own popsicles is the perfect way to bid farewell to the school year and hello to summer break!
Create a Summer Bucket List
What better way to celebrate the start of summer than creating a summer bucket list of all the fun things you want to do while school is out? Be sure to include family trips you’re looking forward to or even something as simple as trips to the playground.
Celebrate Summer
Finally, enjoy your summer! Whether you will keep up with some academic work or hang out at the park or pool this summer, celebrate another year of learning together!
I love the end of the year interview! It’s so fun to look back years later and see where you pictured yourself (even so young!)
Paper invites are always so fun to give and receive! And how is it almost the end of the school year??
Those invitations are BEAUTIFUL!
This list is great! Those invitations look so pretty too. I love that you can order samples too! I can’t tell you how many times I have boughten 50+ cards that I wasn’t thrilled with. They can look so different when you print them out. Putting this in my back pocket for next years pre-school graduation (GASP) why do they grow up so fast!
