Happy, happy Friday my friends!  And, welcome to another edition of Five Things on Friday!  I hope that you all have had a wonderful week.  It was a full and fun week over here.  I’m working to get more content to you all here on the blog and I’m excited to share some of my favorite things with you all this week.

Most weeks, these are sort of life updates, but since this week’s post was the monthly version of that, today I’m just sharing five things that have made me happy this week.  Spoiler alert: 60% of them are snack related.  Mama likes to snack, ok?  But the rest really are exciting.

You can see more of my Five Things on Friday posts here.

My Camera is Working Again

You may have remembered back in July when I mentioned that my camera took a little swim in a bucket of water while Little and I were playing outside and I couldn’t get it to work.  I was totally bummed and it really took a toll on my blogging motivation.  The guys at the camera shop confirmed that it wasn’t worth it to get it fixed.  I was (and really still am debating) buying another point and shoot camera or taking the plunge and getting a DSLR.  I really like the convenience of the point and shoot, but I know that I eventually want to invest in a DSLR.  Decisions, decisions.

The camera turned on fine and I could still access the photos on the memory card just fine.  But when I tried to take any new photos they all ended up like this:

See?  Total bummer.  But then one afternoon recently, Little found it and carrying it around with him and managed to get this photo:

Ignore the blurry hand trying to get a look at the screen and just take a look at those sweet little toes, ok?

Guys.  Little fixed my camera!  To be honest, I’m still in a little bit of disbelief.  It’s basically a prime example of kicking the machine a few times until it starts working again.  I’ve since use the camera to take the rest of the photos in this post and I am pumped.  Totally stoked.

I’m holding my breath a little bit though and still hoping to get a replacement soon just in case, but y’all.  Anyone else want to be excited with me?

Sparkling Water from Trader Joe’s

And so begins the portion of the post where I tell you all my latest grocery obsessions.  I stopped drinking soft drinks for the most part when I was pregnant with Little back in 2015.  I just don’t crave them anymore and they do not at all quench my thirst the way plain old water does.  But recently, I wanted to try something new and gave sparkling water a try.  I picked up a few of these 1 liter bottles at our local Trader Joe’s for just $0.79 each!  Obsessed.  I still treat them like a special treat around here like I would a soft drink, because there are still times where I find myself feeling a little crazy for buying water and not just getting it from the fridge, but it’s better than drinking Diet Coke, right?

Cherries

And because I’m always on the lookout for healthy snacks that feel like treats, I’ve been picking up cherries from the grocery store anytime I see them on sale for less than $2/pound.  Little can’t eat them because of the pit, so they really are a treat just for me (and Hubs, too when he wants them).  They are so tasty and it makes me glad to know that I’m not filling myself with a ton of junk.  It’s the little things, people.  The little things.

Looking for healthy snacks on the go? Grab a bowl of cherries!

Cinnamon Oat KIND Bars

Ok, last one on food.  Little and I were at an event recently, and KIND bar reps were passing out samples of this new flavor (I don’t actually know how new the flavor is, but it was labeled as a “new product” in Harris Teeter a few weeks ago).  I’ve had KIND bars before, but this flavor is the one that I have been wanting on repeat lately.  I really wish I could find them in bulk somewhere.  I want to try the cinnamon oat & honey granola next.  They don’t quite feel like dessert, but they are sweet enough to feel a little indulgent.  They are also a good mix of chewy and crunchy, which I like.

Sister Weekend

Finally, my sisters and I are heading to Charleston this weekend for a girls trip.  Send me your favorite things to do there if you’ve been and be sure to follow on Instagram to keep up with the adventure.  Fortunately, I’ll have a working camera, so I hope to get a fun recap for you all one I return.  I’m excited to spend some time with my sisters and can’t wait to visit Charleston.  I’ve actually never been, so I’ve already asked to do all the touristy things.

Rainbow Row in Charleston, SC
Ok, so this picture is not from my newly functioning camera. It’s via my sister, but used with permission. 🙂

And that’s it for this week.  Next week will be September, which is totally crazy.  What do you have going on this weekend?  Tell me in the comments; I love, love, love to hear from you!!

  1. I absolutely love Kind bars! I don’t know if you have a Big Lots around you, but I always buy mine their because they are always discounted! Sometimes for 1.25 a box!

Oh, I hadn’t even thought of looking for them at Big Lots – that’s a great idea!

  2. I just went to Charleston for the first time this past spring and loved it! King Street is very overrated – it’s just a lot of chain stores – but most of the rest of the city is worth seeing. My favorite was Magnolia Plantations; we bought the garden pass and were easily able to spend a few hours there walking around.

    1. Mary Leigh says:

I totally agreed. I’m hoping to go back again in the future and will definitely add the Magnolia Plantations to my list!

  3. Oh, I love charleston!! And an adult only sister weekend sounds blissful! Soak it all up and enjoy!! :))

    1. Mary Leigh says:

      Thanks; it was really fun!
