This tissue paper pumpkin is a fun and easy pumpkin craft for kids!  It’s great for fine motor skills development, increasing hand-eye coordination for kids, and practicing using glue!  You may also include the use of scissors and turn this fall craft into a easy cut and paste activity for kids.  It’s easy to put together and clean up – so it’s a win in our book!

Is it finally starting to feel like Fall where you are?  We are thankful to be able to answer a strong YES! over here finally!  We’ve been having lots of cool morning and nights with still warm (and sometimes hot) afternoons – perfect for playing outside, but still being able to see the leaves change colors!

The boys and I are heading out to the pumpkin patch this week with my sister who is tracked out of school this week, so a fun pumpkin craft is only fitting.

This tissue paper pumpkin craft was easy to put together and ended up being lots of fun for my 4 year old.  I think it’s a perfect fall pumpkin activity for older toddlers, preschool, or even young elementary ages.

I had the idea of using tissue paper from our torn paper shamrock craft that we did back in March – but I wanted something easy for Little to not only tear, but crumple up, too.  Since we’re beginning to learn about handwriting and letter forming, I wanted to incorporate as many ways to work our fine motor skills as possible.  So tearing – and crinkling.  And scissors and glue.

Make Your Own Tissue Paper Pumpkin Craft

You can skip the scissors if you want.  Tearing the paper works just fine – and Little ended up doing a mix of both.  He cut some pieces of tissue paper and tore the others.

It all looks the same once you glue it to the pumpkin.

  • 1 piece of blank paper – we just used a regular piece of copy paper from the printer.
  • Pumpkin Template
  • Orange Tissue Paper
    • I actually bought this package of tissue paper in lots of colors to have on hand for gifts or crafts when we need a specific color of tissue paper.
  • School Glue
  • Scissors, optional
  • Brown construction paper
    • You can also use brown tissue paper to make the stem, or color your own with a brown marker.

Directions

  • Glue each “ball” of tissue paper onto the pumpkin template.
  • Use a small strip of brown construction paper for the stem – or color one with a brown marker.
  • If you’d like, you can draw a green vine onto your pumpkin stem.

Note: If you prefer not to use tissue paper, you may also use orange construction paper to create a “torn paper” pumpkin – much like our torn paper shamrocks.  Construction paper won’t crumple and hold easily, but you’ll still get the benefit of tearing and pasting for a similarly fun and simple fall pumpkin craft.

If you choose to go this route, be sure to still grab your pumpkin template and then use this post for more specific instructions for your torn paper craft.
